INDEN Est.1582
INDEN began in 1582 in Kofu, Japan, when samurai needed armor that was both protective and beautifully crafted. Artisans combined soft, durable deerskin with hand-applied urushi lacquer — creating something tough enough for battle, yet elegant enough to express the warrior's spirit. Patterns like the dragonfly (a symbol of victory, since it can only fly forward) were worked into the leather, turning armor into something deeply meaningful. When the age of samurai ended, our artisans didn't let that craft disappear — they redirected it into everyday items: wallets, card cases, bags. The same deerskin, the same lacquer, the same 400-year-old technique, now living in objects people carry every day. What inspires us is simple: we're not recreating history, we're continuing it. Every piece we make today is made exactly the way it would have been made for a 16th-century warrior — just serving a different kind of battle.
