Bind your own Tomoe River Notebook - TN Passport Size

▶︎ What is this workshop about?
Bookbinding and making a quality notebook is easier than you think! Chanel will provide everything you need to make a fountain pen friendly notebook using Tomoe River paper. The double notebook is an ideal structure for a Traveler's Notebook insert that can be adapted to your needs. Choose from a variety of stunning chiyogami sheets (patterned Japanese paper) to personalize your notebook.

Bring stamps, craft punches, stickers, or anything else you'd like to decorate with! And bring an x-acto knife if you have one! Once you've been introduced to the essential tools and materials, and learned the basic bookbinding skills, the sky's the limit with the books you can make.

▶︎ Meet the Instructor, Chanel!

Chanel Ly (she/her) is a bookbinder, author, and librarian-in-training. She created bitter melon bindery in 2017 when she discovered the irresistible beauty of washi (traditional Japanese paper), which became a signature element of her handmade journals and sketchbooks. Her YouTube channel has garnered over 180K subscribers, where she shares her craft process through tutorials and ASMR videos. Her beginner how-to guide, Handmade Books at Home, was published in 2023. In the past few years, her bookbinding practice has expanded into fine binding and book conservation as she advances her skills with the American Academy of Bookbinding and UCLA Library. She is the current chair of the Guild of Book Workers California Chapter, where she continues to uplift the bookbinding craft and community, and hopes to get more people excited about bookbinding!
